So if we are under attack, what do these places look like from which the enemy seeks to influence, then control and destroy us? Remember the old saying, “What you don’t know won’t hurt you”? This is a good saying if you are trying to keep people in the dark. Or if you don’t want someone to know what you are doing. But when it comes to knowing ourselves and owning our stuff it’s less than helpful and more likely, hurtful.
Last week we talked about how our history does not have to define our future because as we have the ability to break free from those things we have inherited. But what about those things that are far more subtle? The ones hiding in our shadow? Call them our blindspots or the shadow of our strengths, but we all have them – even when we are sure we don’t!

All of us have inherited an operating system from our parents. Most of the time it runs in the background influencing our choices and ways of seeing the world. Some of this is good. Some of this may be less than perfect. Some of this may be hard for your to even talk about. We don’t choose our families or the operating systems that have handed us. But we do get to decide if we will pass forward the dark things we have inherited on to our children and spouse, or end the dark inheritance in our generation. Here we look at generational influence…and how to redeem it.

What is your dark side? We try to manage them. We are occasionally are embarrassed by them. But we all have them. We take a look how Jesus addressed our dark sides. And we will listen to what He has to say about how our dark side can effect our ability to positively influence others… and how living His way changes everything in how we influence others.
