We are starting a new teaching series – “Red Letters . . .moving beyond the grey.” It’s a new series, and yet a continuation of Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” that we have been studying. This week we will be looking at Matthew 5:13-16, where Jesus defines us as salt and light. BULLETIN

Jesus said the righteousness of His disciples should “exceed that of the Pharisees.” Does that mean we need to be more knit-picking and legalistic? Does it mean we need to be meaner toward ‘sinners’? What does that mean anyway? Let’s take a look further into Jesus’ red letter words in Matthew 5. BULLETIN

This weekend we are continuing our study of Jesus’ Red Letters material in Matthew 5. This week Jesus comments on the nature of lust.
Lust is an ugly thing. It dehumanizes others. It makes us less than we long to be.
In our incredibly sexualized society, how do we guard our minds and desires from being wrongly directed?
How do we shake free to live in purity?
If you want answers, you will want to be with us this weekend.

There is perhaps no more painful human conflict than divorce. So, it explains why Jesus, the ‘lover of our souls’, would address it. He spoke into a context much like ours: a culture divided with diverse opinions about divorce. Hear what ‘God in person’ said on this subject as we continue the series Red Letters. BULLETIN

Have you ever stopped to consider, “When is it okay to tell less than the truth?” It’s actually something you likely rarely consider. In fact, it may even seem strange to ask the question. But cultural practice can actually encourage us to tell less than the truth. After all, don’t we want to be polite?!? As clear cut as “telling the truth” may be in our minds, in practice it can be far more difficult. This week we are back in Matthew chapter 5:33-37, where Jesus challenges a popular cultural practice to again point us toward what it looks to live a transformed life. No working the system, just relying upon truth. The RED Letters of Jesus call us to live lives marked by truth with appropriate transparency. BULLETIN

We live in a world where retaliation and escalating rhetoric fill our news channels. It seems the days when leaders stood above the mud-slinging have passed. We live in a day when payback seems to be ever sought; conflicts and division seem to be escalating. As Christians, we are called to live differently. Jesus has called us to be people who do not retaliate. This weekend we will consider the challenging words of Jesus on how to respond when treated badly by others. It is a truly counter-cultural message. BULLETIN

Hate can live closer to home than we might think. We tend not to notice our US vs. THEM mentalities as long as all of our friends agree with us about who we should despise and hold in contempt. What if I told you that in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus confronted His own friends and disciples? They had grown comfortable in their bigotry, felt justified in their anger toward certain groups of people and they all agreed their hate was right… even noble. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus talks about hate and its remedy: super-love. BULLETIN

Our Actions Speak, but what are they saying?
The RED Letters of Jesus point us toward caring for others born out of the right motive before the right audience. The right thing done with the wrong motive or for the wrong audience ends up falling short.
Join us this weekend as we wrap up our RED Letters series where we will see that as a follower of Jesus, I am called to recognize my actions speak as I live out my faith.
