Hate can live closer to home than we might think. We tend not to notice our US vs. THEM mentalities as long as all of our friends agree with us about who we should despise and hold in contempt. What if I told you that in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus confronted His own friends and disciples? They had grown comfortable in their bigotry, felt justified in their anger toward certain groups of people and they all agreed their hate was right… even noble.
