The rhythm acoustic players serve to provide a consistent and steady rhythmic identity for a given song. This role is accomplished through various approaches of strumming and picking.

What We’re Looking For:

Ability to play with a click: Each instrument on stage will be required to know how to play along to a click or metronome track. Please make sure that you download the audition materials provided and submit your video with the track provided that has a click included.

Ability to learn parts by ear: We provide MP3 tracks on our Planning Center database for volunteers to learn their parts for the weekend. We will be looking for accuracy on the original parts recorded on the tracks.

Ability to demonstrate dynamics: An acoustic player has the opportunity to play within a very wide range of dynamics – from loud to soft, from finesse to aggressive, etc. The acoustic player needs to be able to understand and execute accordingly.

Ability with various types of voicings and/or inversions that are utilized – overall vocabulary of chords: Just like with every other guitar role, and especially so with acoustic, it is important that the acoustic player has a wide ranging vocabulary of chords and various chord voicing to provide the most dynamically pleasing sound.

Appropriateness of strumming/picking throughout a given song: Directly correlated to dynamics, the ability and knowledge to strum in the appropriate time and manner is crucial for an acoustic player. This includes the proper and clean utilization of picking.

Ability to pick out specific patterns as needed in a given song: There are often times when a specific song will call for a specific strum pattern that would appropriately drive or fill in the space. It is important that the acoustic player can hear and execute accordingly.

Smoothness and cleanliness of chord movement: It is important that the acoustic player can transition from chord to chord in a clean and smooth fashion, without any surplus notes or stoppages in time.
