Bass Guitar

The main role for bass players is to be a supportive rhythm instrument. They will help lay the rhythmic foundation along with the drums for the entire band, meanwhile also laying the foundation of every chord that is played.

What We’re Looking For:

Ability to play with a click: Each instrument on stage will be required to know how to play along to a click or metronome track. Please make sure that you download the audition materials provided and submit your video with the track provided that has a click included.

Ability to learn parts by ear: We provide MP3 tracks on our Planning Center database for volunteers to learn their parts for the weekend. We will be looking for accuracy on the original parts recorded on the tracks.

Ability to demonstrate dynamics: We will be looking for bass players that have a good understanding of when to tone it down vs. bringing the intensity up.

Ability to play correct octaves of the chords: Playing the correct octaves contributes significantly to the overall fullness and eq of the band at any given moment.

Ability to play correct rhythms that go with the track: There are many tracks that require specific rhythms for the bass players, whether it is in direct conjunction with the drummer’s kick pattern or what is just generally appropriate for the song.

Ability to play correct specific parts/runs/riffs outside of just the chords: Beyond just playing chords and rhythms, bass players are required to play very specific runs and riffs as fillers during various moments of the song.

Ability to maintain a smooth technique in the right hand: We will be looking for bass players that have strong right hand technique and allow for smoothness of the overall tone quality.
