DRUMS

The drummer’s role is very important in that they serve as the active heartbeat of the band. The drummer is the launching pad for the tempo, dynamics and feel of a given song. They serve as the main rhythmic force.

What We’re Looking For:

Ability to play with a click: Each instrument on stage will be required to know how to play along to a click or metronome track. Please make sure that you download the audition materials provided and submit your video with the track provided that has a click included.

Ability to learn parts by ear: We provide MP3 tracks on our Planning Center database for volunteers to learn their parts for the weekend. We will be looking for accuracy on the original parts recorded on the tracks.

Ability to demonstrate dynamics: Drummers significantly contribute to the overall dynamics of the band and the song. We will be looking for a drummer’s knowledge of when to play softer vs. louder.

Ability to know and understand song structure: Drummers need to know all transitions within the song, i.e.: cutoffs, build ups, fade outs.

Ability to play the correct grooves/beats as well as playing them with the proper feel of a given song: It is crucial that the drummer can play the correct beats and grooves, as it contributes heavily to the overall feel of the song, and often times the band is playing in direct correlation to what the drummer is playing.

Ability to identify and play key fills throughout a song and/or ability to craft and execute a stylistic and musically relevant fill in the appropriate spaces: We will be looking for drummers that can either play the original fill recorded on the track, or a fill that creates a similar style and feel to the original and responds to whatever the moment is calling for.
