What We’re Looking For:

Ability to play with a click: Each instrument on stage will be required to know how to play along to a click or metronome track. Please make sure that you download the audition materials provided and submit your video with the track provided that has a click included.

Ability to learn parts by ear: We provide MP3 tracks on our Planning Center database for volunteers to learn their parts for the weekend. We will be looking for accuracy on the original parts recorded on the tracks.

Ability to demonstrate dynamics: Dynamics for a lead player is crucial. We will be looking for lead electric players that know the ins and outs of providing ambient swelling for the appropriate times, as well as knowing how to play lead lines with varying dynamic levels.

Ability to play various types of voicings and/or inversions that are utilized: The lead electric player, much like all other guitarists, must have a good working knowledge and vocabulary of various chords and chord shapes to provide the most colors as possible.

Ability to not overplay, but rather only what is appropriate for the song and the particular spaces within a given song: A lead electric player must understand that their role is to add color and filler, and that solos are only appropriate when the specific moment of a song calls for it. They must understand how to utilize space appropriately as well.

Ability to learn specific lead lines accurately: We will be looking for lead electric players that are able to hear and play specific lead lines that often times present the main musical hook throughout a given song with as few unnecessary….

Accuracy and relevance of tone: We will be looking for lead electric players with an understanding and capacity to setup their gear in a manner that would provide a consistency of relevant tone to the style of music we play.
