Baptism
What is Baptism?
Baptism is the first obedience to God, and the way a new follower of Jesus declares their faith demonstrates their surrender to His Lordship and initiates them into the community of faith.
Obedience to the command of God:
I am determined to obey God’s word. This is among my first acts of obedience.
“And now, why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.” Acts 22:19
Declaration of faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the removal of my sins:
I personally believe that Jesus died to pay for my sins and rose to offer me new life.
“Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we roo might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:3-4
Demonstration of my surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ:
I have died to my old life and rise up to a new life surrendered to Jesus. As Jesus rose from the dead to be with the Father, so will I.
“…having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.” Colossians 2:12
Initiation into the church, God’s redemptive community:
I am publicly showing my commitment to be united to Jesus Christ and His community of faith.
“For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:13
Who Can Baptize Me?
Anyone who is a sincere follower of Jesus and has already been baptized.
