God’s mercy is for everyone – even those we would rather write off. What are some of the ways God’s mercy is displayed in these chapters? What does Jonah’s anger reveal about what he believed the people of Nineveh deserved? Who is difficult for you to imagine Jesus transforming? What does that reveal about your own heart? How would your attitude toward that person change if you genuinely desired for them to experience the same mercy you have received? Ask Jesus, “Whose story have I already written off that you want me to see through the lens of your mercy?”

Prayer Prompt: Transform our neighborhoods. Pray for the people and families closest to where we live.

God’s mercy offers second chances to everyone. What do you notice about the way Jesus approaches Peter and restores their relationship? Jesus doesn’t just forgive Peter; he invites him to continue following him. What does that show you about God’s mercy after we fail? Where might regret or failure be keeping you from believing Jesus still wants to work in and through your life? Ask Jesus, “Where do I need to receive your mercy and move forward with you?”

Prayer Prompt: Use us where we work and learn. Ask Jesus to use the transformation he’s doing in us to spark transformation in everyday places.

God’s mercy receives those who turn to Him. What do you notice about how Jesus moves toward Zaccheus and what does it reveal about him? When Jesus’ mercy changes us, it changes how we live. Where do you see evidence of his transforming mercy in your life? Where might Jesus be inviting you to turn toward him instead of continuing in your own direction?

Prayer Prompt: Bring hope to hurting people. Pray for those in our area facing poverty, addiction, loneliness, grief, or crisis.

God’s mercy confronts those who resent it. When is it difficult to celebrate God’s mercy or goodness in someone else’s life? Who are you tempted to believe deserves judgment more than mercy? How might remembering the mercy you have received from Jesus change the way you see that person/group? Ask Jesus, “Whose story do I need to see through your mercy?”

Prayer Prompt: Strengthen families. Pray for marriages, parents, children, foster families, and vulnerable kids.

How has reflecting on God’s mercy this week challenged the way you see yourself or someone else? What would it look like for you to extend the mercy you have received from Jesus to someone you have been tempted to write off?

Prayer Prompt: Bless those who serve our communities. Pray for civic leaders, teachers, healthcare workers, first responders, nonprofits, and others.
