Our Discipleship Freeway

Discipleship isn’t a project we complete…

…it’s a relationship we live out, a path we walk with Jesus. However, most of us don’t walk on a path every day. What we do is—we drive! And when we want to get from here to there, we get on the freeway. On a freeway, you don’t sit in one lane all the time. You’re constantly changing the lane you’re in so you can keep moving toward your destination.

At Two Rivers, we call our discipleship pathway a “Discipleship Freeway.” The freeway metaphor connects us with the reality that as we are on a journey with Jesus and others, life is busy and we have to intentionally choose what lane we are running in to keep moving forward, being shaped in the image of Jesus. It includes both the personal and collective experience of following Jesus in the real world.

Our ‘Discipleship Freeway’ focuses on growing disciples based on our four core values. You might call it the “biblical DNA of a follower of Jesus.” Followers of Jesus are Gospel-centered, Word-dependent, Spirit-empowered, and Relationally Connected to Jesus and other followers of Jesus.

This pathway is designed to help each person follow Jesus closely, integrating these core values into everyday life. Our ‘Discipleship Freeway’ helps us ensure that everything we do points to Jesus and helps us grow as his followers.
